Benefits to the school:
Through partnerships, students are provided opportunities to explore various careers by job shadowing, guest speaker visits, mentoring and in some instances even participating in site visits, to see firsthand the application of what they are learning in the classroom. Students also gain a better understanding of the world of work, the expectations, the preparation for careers, and have exposure to positive community role models.
Benefits to the business or educational partner:
Partnering with a local school or with the entire school system can be quite rewarding. It provides partners a greater understanding of the mechanisms of education and its challenges, as well as its successes. It allows businesses to demonstrate and share the needs of the businesses and the community with regards to the future workforce.
Educational partners are allowed the opportunity to share their program offerings, communicate higher education expectations, and promote career options for students. In both instances, educators are better informed of the skills students need for workplace success and can aid in helping to develop those skills.
